Great news for our parish community: on September 14, the Lowell Historic Board voted to formally designate St. Michael's Church as a building of historical significance, recognizing the architectural and historical importance of our 1890 Sixth Street church, designed by noted architect Patrick Keely. This designation is an important and positive step forward, as it satisfies a key eligibility requirement for St. Michael's application to the City's Community Preservation Act (CPA) program, which would help fund critical façade repointing work to address water infiltration and safety concerns on our historic building. With this milestone achieved, the next step is for the Community Preservation Committee to review and consider the full funding application later this fall. We're grateful for the support of the Historic Board and the City in helping preserve our beautiful and historic parish home.
